Byram’s Chapel Core Beliefs

Bible

We Believe that the Holy Bible is the inspired, infallible Word of God written by men as God breathed upon them. It is the final authority in all matters of faith and conduct 2 Timothy 3:16 and by the authority of God's Word that we make the following declarations:

God

We affirm that there is one God, infinitely perfect and eternally existent in the persons of Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

Jesus Christ

We affirm the deity of our Lord Jesus Christ, His virgin birth, His sinless life, His miracles, His vicarious and atoning death through His shed blood, His bodily resurrection, His ascension to the right hand of the Father, and His personal return in power and glory.

The Holy Spirit

We affirm the present ministry of the Holy Spirit by whose indwelling the Christian is enabled to live a godly life. We affirm the fullness of the Holy Spirit as the empowerment of the Christian for witness and service. We affirm that the Holy Spirit provides one or more spiritual gifts to all believers, manifesting them as He wills. We affirm that all of the gifts of the Holy Spirit are operative today.

Mankind

We believe that Adam was divinely created in the image of God

  • That by the sin of disobedience he fell from that state
  • That all his posterity inherited spiritual depravity and defilement
  • That all men therefore are guilty before God and condemned to physical and spiritual death

We affirm the resurrection of both the saved and the lost; those that are saved to the resurrection of life, and those that are lost to the resurrection of eternal damnation.

Salvation

We affirm that salvation is by grace through faith in our Lord Jesus Christ. We affirm that repentance toward God, faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, and regeneration by the Holy Spirit are essential to salvation.

Baptism

We affirm believer's baptism by immersion in obedience to our Lord Jesus Christ.

The Church

We affirm the one, Universal Church which is the body of Christ. We affirm Christ as it's head. We affirm all who are born-again as its members. We affirm the Church's purpose as offering worship to God, fellowship, ministry, instruction to itself, evangelism, and service to the world. We affirm the spiritual unity of believers in our Lord Jesus Christ.

We affirm that communion is a divinely instituted ordinance of our Lord and that all believers should participate after self-examination. We affirm that while taking the Lord's Supper our thoughts should be in remembrance of Him.

We affirm the ministry and presence of angels, and the reality of the devil and demonic forces.

We affirm the sanctity of life from the moment of conception, chastity for Christian people, and the sacredness of the Christian marriage.
